Program Instruction

Program Instruction

Core classes conveniently meet twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays for all grade levels. Most electives meet one day per week, either Tuesday or Thursday. The remaining days of the week allow for home instruction that is assigned and ultimately reviewed by the instructor. This home study portion is completed under the aid or supervision of the parent. In conjunction, curriculums act as an effective guide in the coursework. Access to instructors on non-school days is allowed through secure web-based technology in our communications/grading platform. A strong foundation results in a well-prepared student.

The capstone to the program’s effectiveness is in its instructors. Each instructor is chosen based on having met  our high standards and qualifying conditions. They are professed Christians with, not only expertise, but also an  inalienable interest in the subjects being taught. Most of our instructors bring to bare exceptional teaching  experiences in public and private institutions, as well as tutoring, allowing them to share those unique  perspectives with us. Additionally, some of our instructors, in some combination, were either homeschooled  themselves, have homeschooled their own children or have had responsibility in some regard to educating  homeschoolers. This fact, of course, allows for a richer understanding of our high expectations in terms of  lesson plan and personal discipline. All have witnessed the devastation and assult laying bare our public  eductional beauracracy as of late. Last, but not least, it brings us pleasure to be able to state our instructors'  highest priority is in having the heart for helping nurture and guide our students in both mind and spirit.

THE SOCIAL DYNAMIC

As a sought-after consequence, low instructor to pupil ratios typically afford students a higher level of learning. This, likewise, is accentuated and balanced by hearty classroom participation and discussions. We believe this social learning aspect is sometimes overlooked and underestimated in its effectiveness when homeschooling. Because of this, we are deliberate in fostering an environment for incorporating high levels of participation. It is built into our operational fabric. This collaborative interaction is both honored and supported here--falling under the second guiding tenet in our educational philosophy, accountability, which is afforded equivalent concession along with our other guiding elements in supporting learning for life at its finest.  Our Guiding Tenets

We start with a framework of surrender to a Holy God. With Him, nothing is impossible. Without Him, nothing  is possible. This spirit is embodied in every decision we make, large or small. We get to witness this modeled by  True North directors and instructors, alike, every day. The confluence of stout curriculum, exceptional teaching  and parents work together as we seek and stand for excellence, both instruction-wise and for the whole  person. The home study component of the program is complementary to the robust instructor-lead coursework  and is facilitated by technology within our web-based grading/communications platform. Instructors teach classes  at the school, and further assign work for days students are not in class.

Technology, not just for the sake of technology, effective teaching aids, proctored tests, supervised labs, formal dances, theatrical performances, music recitals, field trips, workshops and guest speakers round out the augmentation of our class offerings.
